Office Hours & 5 Star

As we continue to progress with the new Office Hours App (5 Star), everyone is learning more and more about how to use it well. That includes students, teachers and administration. As a staff, we do feel that the program is working to hold students accountable for where they are during this “less structured” time and we believe the students are more engaged and productive as a result of that accountability.  In addition, having the ability to know where they are has improved the safety of all students.

Here are the rules for Office Hours:

  1. Sign-up for a class for every Office Hours offered.
    • The window to sign up is until 11:59 PM the night before. This is new. The ability to sign up on the day of is going away.
    • Those with no sign-ups will be swept into the MPR or small gym and assigned a detention.
      • If you have a "glitch" here are some ideas...
        • Do not "cancel" any class you are in.
        • Take a screen shot once you were able to sign-up for a class.  Come see someone in the office or library before school starts.
    • Remember that students can sign-up for an Office Hour, based on their own schedule, 7 days in advance.
  2. All students must check into the Office Hours they chose.
  3. Stay at the class for which you signed-up for the entire OH period.

As we approach the progress report grading period, some students will be assigned to Office Hours by their counselor and/or teacher.

Again, the 5 Star App is the easiest way to navigate the Office Hours Procedure. However, students DO NOT need a smart phone to use 5 Star. The link to sign-up for Office Hours can be accessed through their Chromebook at https://5starstudents.com/universitytrojanarmy. Or, https://universityhigh.iusd.org/ --> Students --> ASB. Click on the "5 Star Web Link". We are working on getting that link on every Homeroom Canvas page.

Thank you for your support by having these important conversations with your student and checking in on their progress regularly.

Sincerely,

UHS Teachers and Administration
